Since I am originally from Konya I have earlier had the opportunity to visit Capadoccia which is about two hours away from Konya. Doubt this it was such a long time ago I was in Capadoccia, it was time for a new visit now...so we decided to make a little Capadoccia tour during the weekend. Despite the fact that the city is a very popular tourist destination it is also very famous for the sunsets, hot-air ballooning, cave houses, cozy streets and stone churches therefore it is known to be really romantic. It has many areas with unique geological, historic, and cultural features.
The most important towns in Cappadoccia are Ürgüp, Göreme, Ihlara Valley, Selime, Güzelyurt, Uchisar and Avanos. You will be able to see pictures taken in these towns. A "must to do" is to visit the underground cities which Capadoccia is really famous for, these are: Derinkuyu, Kaymakli, Gaziemir and Ozkanak.
Well for those who have been to Capadoccia know that the sedimentary rocks symbolize the meaning of the city. These are rocks that erupted from ancient volcanoes, the rocks near Göreme in Capadoccia eroded into hunders of spectacular pillars and minaret-like forms. It is really fascinating, the form of the rocks look like humans. It is said to be that they look like humans with hats on, the hat represent their lifetime and when the hat falls, the rock is said to be dead.
The Turkish people are familiar with the series Asmali Konak, this was played in Capadoccia during 2002. It is hard to believe but there are still thousands of people visiting the city just because of the series.
Oh and we also had the opportunity to visit the Salt Lake, for those who follows my blog have seen updates on the lake before:)
